Interested in yacht racing with CUYC? This page lays out the 2024/25 season and what you need to do to get involved.
Racing officer: Arthur Lemaire, al2119@cam.ac.uk
- Training Weekends & Races(March)
- BUSA Championships (April)
- Varsity Race (May)
If you're passionate about sailing and ready to represent Cambridge, the CUYC Racing Squad is your chance! We compete in the British University Sailing Association (BUSA) Championships in April. Then in May, we face our biggest rivals—Oxford—in the legendary Varsity Race.
What to expect ?
The Skylark training weekends will allow the Blues squad to get to know each other, before being put through their paces in the training races (likely a Sunsail weekend regatta down in the Solent).ely Dates will be flexible, based on crew availability.
If you're a fresher or not already on our mailing lists, make sure you come along to our fresher's fair stand to get signed up. Once you are on our mailing lists you will be kept up-to-date about racing and the racing presentation. If you're a fresher, there's no need to do anything until you get here to Cambridge.
What Happens Next:
At the start of Michaelmas Term, we hold an open meeting where we’ll explain the programme in detail. It’s a great chance to meet the VC-Racing and the Racing Officer, Arthur Lemaire (al2119@cam.ac.uk), and ask any questions you might have.
After that, we’ll run introductory sessions both on the water (weekends out of Ipswich on Skylark) and land-based theory in Cambridge. Even if you’re new to racing—or to sailing altogether—these sessions will get you up to speed. They’ll also help us select the Blues squad—our top eight sailors who’ll go on to compete in BUSA and Varsity.
The Blues squad is chosen by Christmas, and training continues from there.
Can’t Meet Us in Person?
No problem! Just drop the race officer Arthur an email "al2119@cam.ac.uk" (and definitely before the end of Michaelmas term, when squad decisions start being made).
