2024 Race Programme
Interested in yacht racing with CUYC this coming year? This page lays out the provisional plan for the year and what you need to do to get involved.
NOTE: This plan is provisional and so subject to change. It is just to give an idea of the likely schedule.
Programme
Michaelmas
- 3-4 introductory/training weekends on Skylark out of Ipswich
- Land-based theory on the 'off' weeks
These introductory sessions serve to bring new sailors into racing, even those who may not have prior sailing experience. They also serve to help the racing captain make selection for the blues squad. Over Christmas, the blues squad (top eight student sailors) will be selected. This squad will target the BUSA and Varsity races and continue with the programme as below.
Lent-Easter
- 1-2 Skylark training weekends out of Ipswich in early Feb / late March.
- Training Race 1 (March)
- BUSA 8-11th April
- Training Race 2 (May)
- Varsity (July)
BUSA offers the opportunity to race against other British universities, whilst the Varsity race is solely against Oxford. The Skylark training weekends will allow the blues squad to get to know each other, before being put through their paces in the training races (likely a Sunsail weekend regatta down in the Solent). The exact dates of training weekends will be organised depending on crew availability.
I'm interested. What should I do?
In the first few weeks of Michaelmas, CUYC racing will hold a meeting to present the programme. If you come along to this you can make yourself known to the VC-racing and we can answer any questions you have.
If you're a fresher or not already on our mailing lists, make sure you come along to our fresher's fair stand to get signed up. Once you are on our mailing lists you will be kept up-to-date about racing and the racing presentation. If you're a fresher, there's no need to do anything until you get here to Cambridge.
If all else fails, email us at info@cuyc.org.uk for the attention of the vc-racing (and definitely before the end of Michaelmas, when squad decisions start being made).
