This trip will be skippered by Rob!
Rob is a third year engineering student at Queens’, and Commodore of CUYC. He has been sailing for about 15 years, first starting out on dinghies before moving to yachts when he was 18 and on his gap year. Since then, he's been a skipper of two CUYC summer programmes, raced in several different countries, and been to Varsity and the Yachting Nationals. His background might be racing, but he's really come to love the satisfaction of cruising. Using a yacht not as tool for going quickly and beating everyone else, but instead as a tool for adventure and exploration. He loves how sailing lets you access places you normally couldn’t get to, and how seeing the world from the water makes it so much more beautiful.
Rob has got a reputation with the racing team for a mean risotto, where all the ingredients are from tins and nothing needs chopping up! Hopefully the food on this trip will be a few steps above that, and he'll be able to treat you all to such delicacies as his Jamaican bean curry. Don’t forget this is a CUYC trip, and by requirement you must therefore have cake and custard at least once.
The plan for the trip is to explore the Inner and Outer Hebrides around Ullapool. There won’t be much hardcore adventurous sailing, but sometimes the passage between the islands (called the Minch) can get a tad rough. You will probably spend a few days on land, so be prepared to do a bit of walking to explore the islands! A favourite spot is the Shiant Island, only accessible by yacht.
