Welcome Everyone!

Welcome to the Cambridge University Yacht Club (the yachting section of the Cambridge University Cruising Club).  If you’d like to get involved in yacht sailing at University, we offer regular cruising, racing and training trips.

So whether you want a relaxing weekend’s sailing on the club yacht (Kestrel, a Sigma 38 based in Ipswich) or to represent Cambridge in the hotly contested BUSA Student Yachting Nationals, you’ve come to the right place.

More after the break...

Our status as an approved RYA (Royal Yachting Association) training centre allows us to offer both practical and theory training courses for everyone from complete novices to budding yachtmasters.  This is one of the cheapest opportunities you’ll have to gain an RYA qualification so why wait? Have a look at the programme to see what's coming up.

For those keen to take their yachting further, we also undertake longer and more adventurous passages.  For example, Kestrel sailed across the North Sea to Scandinavia last summer and you will have the chance to visit continental Europe this summer.  For the racers among us, or cruisers keen to try something new, we regularly charter racing yachts (such as J/109s and X332s) in the Solent to hone our skills for BUSA and the annual challenge against the Other Place (otherwise known as Oxf**d).

If, however, you’re the type of person who prefers lounging on a sundeck to clambering around a heaving foredeck, there will be many opportunities to experience the more refined side of sailing.  Over the past few years the club has run a number of trips in the Mediterranean and this term Kestrel will be cruising up the Thames to visit the Capital.

Have a look and some of our photo galleries (more comming soon) and past events, to get a good idea of what we usually get up to.

How to get involved?

If you like what you’ve read and are interested in joining us, whether as a complete novice or a salty sea dog:

- come and talk to us at the freshers’ fair at Kelsey Kerridge;

- OR come along to the CUCrC squash on 13th October, 5 – 9pm in the Bateman Room, Caius College (FREE DRINKS!).

- AND sign up for our mailing lists by registering with our new shiny website here!

And while you’re waiting why not check out the programme page on this site for more details about the exciting trips planned for this term?
