Racing weekend 1

Posted on the 9th March at 1:32 p.m.

This weekend, a team of 8 from Cambridge journeyed to Portsmouth to compete in Sunsail Regatta 1...

Sunsail Regatta 1 - Event Report

6-7 March 2010

The team set off on Friday for Portsmouth for their first training weekend of the season.  We boarded our good boat, ‘Sunsail 25’ and after much banter, fell soundly asleep (apart from those kept awake by the strange sounds issuing from Chris and Igor’s cabin…).

The morning dawned grey and cold.  Chris took it upon himself to make something else grey and cold- porridge!  After a briefing, we began to get ready to leave the marina.  Andrew made instant friends with the Imperial boat rafted next to us ‘Morning, hope you have a good day.  Not as good as us though, obviously.’

On the first day there wasn’t much wind, maybe 7 knots max.  The first race was nice and calm, a good practice run.  We came in 3rd after 2 Portsmouth boats, and of a total fleet of 9 boats.  The next race we came 4th, even after a pretty disastrous kite drop!  We stayed in Cowes that night and had a swift drink at Pier View before collapsing into bed.

On Sunday there was sunshine and 15-18 knots of wind.  It looked likely that there would be a good days racing.  The first race saw us beat a Portsmouth boat, coming in 2nd.  The second race of the day we came in 3rd, not too far behind the leaders.

Overall position (1 discard) – 3rd of 9.

A great start to the BUSA campaign!
