Cambridge had a brilliant BUSA this year with a record 2nd place, taking silver BUCS medals.

The crew demonstrated true class with consistent results throughout the regatta. The helm and tactician were happy to say that they were being made to look good by the faultless crew work throughout.

The Championships took place in the vicinity of Hamble Marina in the Solent and consisted of eight races over a period of four days. Out of 28 crews entering the competition this year, Cambridge University was the only "inland" university to enter three boats, which all did extremely well, ending up as 8th, 14th and 25th overall.

Highlights for the Cambridge crews include:

  • Cambridge 2 beating Oxford 2 overall
  • Cambridge at places 4,6 and 11 in the long race (race 6)
  • 1st Boat coming 3rd in race 7
  • 2nds coming 4th in race 8
  • 2nd Boat beating 1sts in race 4
  • 3rd Boat beating 2nds in race 7

Full results can be found here. The Cup deservedly went to Southampton University 2 for their outstanding performance - miles in front of the fleet in most races.

Compared to last year's BUSA, Cambridge University improved the quality of its racing squad considerably.

  • The 2nd Boat was skippered and manned in part by last year's 2nd Boat sailors who convincingly moved up a good few notches in performance, shifting from their last year's position at the back of the fleet into its very centre.
  • The 3rd Boat was raced as a development boat. Majority of the crew were yacht cruisers wanting to make the transition to racing. Without any previous racing experience they made it from the very back of the fleet at the beginning of the Championships to position 9 in race 7 on the last day, ending up in the same overall position than our last year's 2nd Boat!

Well done everyone!
