Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Duration: 8 hours
A VHF Day Course and Exam on the same day. The course is split in two. The first session in the morning is concerned with general radio procedures and calls, and the second session in the afternoon with the GMDSS system and practical operation of radios and voice procedure. There will, of course, be time for lunch in between. The second session is the RYA VHF Examination, which, once passed, will entitle you to life-long RYA Certificate of Competence.
Students are required to have a prior knowledge of the phonetic alphabet (the ANSI one) and to provide one standard size passport photograph (not smaller). You will also have to pay for your RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate exam separately (76 pounds).
This certificate is required to obtain the RYA Day Skipper and RYA Yachtmaster.
No prior experience is required, though prior sailing experience (of at least one weekend) would be useful.
