More sailing in the Baltics, this time around Sweden! We'll start and finish our trip in the scenic capital of Sweden, Stockholm, famous for its Venice-like canals and the syndrome.
What we'll do in the interim is up to us! There are countless little islands in the Swedish archipelago, and there's nothing stopping us from dropping anchor by one and exploring.
We can also stray a bit further afield. Along with the rest of the Swedish coast, there's Gotland with its dramatic raukar and Gotska Sandön with its pristine white sands and unusually warm weather.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to join, whether you're an experienced sailor or you've never sailed before: Your skipper and first mate will teach you the ropes.
My name is Guilherme (profile) and I'll be your skipper for this trip! I've been in CUYC since 2019, crossed the Channel and Biscay, navigated the Coast of Death, and have been skippering a number of weekend trips for the club. I love adventurous sailing, navigating by the stars, but also loafing around, swimming in the sea, catching some rays, and drinking caipirinhas. My priorities when sailing are always that the trip be safe and fun! Hopefully the trip will included all of the above. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to message me!
Alex started sailing on dinghies as a teenager but joined CUYC in 2017 and realised yachts were much more fun for having adventures and exploring rugged coastlines. He has sailed with the club most years since then, and loves (in no particular order) teaching people how to sail, helming upwind in brisk conditions, and a cold beer on deck at sunset. He is always keen to get a balance of good sailing with unexpected cultural sites - think nautical museums, viking themed restaurants and concerts. He is often found pushing the limits of what can be cooked on board while the boat is under way.Alex has come back to student life this year for a part-time Masters in Engineering, and can otherwise be found coaching on the towpath or working in intensive care. He is excited to sail with Guilherme, after they sailed together to the Channel Islands in 2021, and to return to the Baltic after crewing there on the CUYC 2019 Summer Programme, because there are hundreds of tiny islands and lots of them seem to have a sauna.
Apart from the trip cost you pay when you sign up, there will also be expenses for food, marinas and diesal during the week. These will be sorted out on the trip via the Splitwise app. You must also pay for your own transport to and from the handover marina in Stockholm.
See the "What to Bring" tab for the full list, but bring warm clothing, seasickness remedies if needed, sleeping bag, personal items, passport, and a spirit of adventure!
