Come sail in the Baltic! Starting off in Turku, Finland, we'll meander our way through the Finnish Archipelago Sea, known for its thousands of rugged and rustic island. We can explore them at leisure, dropping anchor on an isolated island to watch the sunset while enjoying a refreshing drink, going for a swim, or maybe sweating in a local sauna.
We'll then continue on our way to Åland, a semi-autonomous and Swedish-speaking chain of islands in the Baltic and explore there. Sometime before the end of the week, we'll make a big push towards Sweden's capital and the "Venice of Scandinavia," Stockholm. This might involve working on a shift system and some overnight sailing, but it still shouldn't be too demanding.
Anyone and everyone is welcome to join, whether you're an experienced sailor or you've never sailed before: Your skipper and first mate will teach you the ropes!
My name is Guilherme (profile) and I'll be your skipper for this trip! I've been in CUYC since 2019, crossed the Channel and Biscay, navigated the Coast of Death, and have been skippering a number of weekend trips for the club. I love adventurous sailing, navigating by the stars, but also loafing around, swimming in the sea, catching some rays, and drinking caipirinhas. My priorities when sailing are always that the trip be safe and fun! Hopefully the trip will included all of the above. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to message me!
Hi, I'm Lidia, the current cruising officer of the club and your first mate for this trip! This will be my third summer program with CUYC and my second one as first mate. I'm very excited to join you guys in this adventure to cross from Finland to Sweden. I will graduate this July from my PhD in neuroscience, which means I will have a lot of time this summer to plan fun activities as your first mate. Who's keen for some island hoping, card games, paddle boarding and boat parties?
Apart from the trip cost you pay when you sign up, there will also be expenses for food, marinas and diesal during the week. These will be sorted out on the trip via the Splitwise app. You must also pay for your own transport to Turku and from Stockholm.
See the "What to Bring" tab for the full list, but bring warm clothing, seasickness remedies if needed, sleeping bag, personal items, passport, and a spirit of adventure!
