The Archipelago Sea between Turku and Mariehamn is the largest archipelago in the world by number of islands, probably has even more underwater rocks, and we'll try to find plenty of the former whilst avoiding the latter. You don't need any prior sailing experience, you'll learn all you need on board, but this is an active holiday: everyone needs to work together to hoist and trim the sails, and you should expect to take an active part in all aspects of sailing our yacht! Some days we may spend many hours sailing along island after island, on other days stop at some natural harbour for a swim & see if we can find some fresh berries. We'll share the efforts of cooking on board and keeping the boat clean. :) Finding our own islands for the night with no other boat in sight is one of the best parts of sailing around this maze of rocks, but we'll have limited supply of fresh water, so be aware that your daily shower may have to consist of invigorating sea water (it's not that salty!)… if you're not put off by limited showers, going right out onto the water on your first day, having to pull a rope, and being tolerant of each other as we share a confined space for a week, then this may certainly be one of your best holidays :)
NB. Food on this trip will be vegetarian and alcohol-free.
Ti has been sailing with CUYC since 2009, qualified as a skipper in 2014, and been sailing on Skylark until moving to Helsinki, Finland in 2021. Over the last four years, Ti has spent about two months on the water between the islands in Finland's southwest, none on Skylark, and is looking forward to combining the two and being on Skylark once more. Ti's favourite part about sailing is finding other people who aren't shy to muck in, who listen to each other and the nature around, respect each other's boundaries, and who put in their own efforts into making living in a tight space enjoyable for all.
Coco has been sailing all her life, joining CUYC in 2021 and becoming a skipper in 2023. She has sailed in parts of Europe, North and South America and loves nothing more than mucking about on boats with fun and open people, in beautiful places, with good food and lots of swimming. Adventure and outdoor activities are a must when joining any of Coco's trips!
Apart from the trip cost you pay when you sign up, there will also be expenses for food, marinas and diesel during the week. These will be sorted out on the trip via the Splitwise app, and usually come around to £100. You must also pay for your own transport to and from the handover marina.
