Hi all! Join us for what is a relatively adventurous sailing trip from Stockholm, Sweden, to Turku, Finland!
The distance is about 150 miles, and when I first signed up for the trip I imagined it would probably be the case that we would be doing a straight run across the Gulf of Bothnia with maybe 1 or 2 days at sea. However, if you look at a map you'll see we've actually got 30'000 (literally) islands in between us and Turku. It will probably be much more like hopping from island to island gradually making our way towards Finland.
As such, I would say this trip is 'moderately' adventurous. I would recommend that you have been on a sailing boat before but, even if you are relatively inexperienced, if you are willing to push yourself slightly then we'll be happy to have you along :) just know that it will involve more actual sailing mileage than some of the relaxed cruising trips.
Ny name is Joe and I am the skipper for this summer programme trip. I sailed with the CUYC 2022 summer programme (Balearics), was a first mate in 2023 (Norway) and then was a skipper last summer (Galicia). I'm a final year PhD at Sidney Sussex (so please come along and help me to procrastinate writing my thesis).
Apart from the trip cost you pay when you sign up, there will also be expenses for food, marinas and diesal during the week. These will be sorted out on the trip via the Splitwise app, and usually come around to £100. You must also pay for your own transport to and from the handover marina.
See the "What to Bring" tab for the full list, but bring warm clothing, seasickness remedies if needed, sleeping bag, personal items, passport, and a spirit of adventure!
