Leg 6: The Inner Hebrides

About the Skipper

Sebastian is a new skipper having recently passed his YM exam. He joined the Club in 2016 and has sailed in Norway as part of the 2017 Summer Programme as well as the East Coast of England and the Solent. He began sailing during his studies in Germany and has since expanded his sailing experience with the Club on Skylark and Puffin, as well as doing some dinghy sailing on Grafham waters.

What is your favourite meal to cook onboard Skylark?

Anything with seafood but you can never go wrong with a good Curry!

Plan for the Trip

Starting from and ending in Oban, we hope to spend the week exploring the Inner Hebrides including:

  • Islay, also known as Queen of the Hebrides, the island boasts 8 whisky distilleries and over 130 miles of sandy beaches! Saligo Bay in particular is rumoured to have one of the best sunsets in Scotland! The island is also said to have a huge variety of wildlife from sea birds to seals which we hope to see plenty of!
  • Isle of Jura, is much more sparsely populated than Islay, with only 196 inhabitants recorded on 2011. The island is largely covered by blanket bog whilst the main settlement, Craighouse, is home to Jura Distillery! The Gulf of Corryvreckan (meaning cauldron of the speckled seas in Gaelic) to the north of Jura forms a whirlpool at certain tide times and has been the subject of many mythological tales in the area!
  • Isle of Mull, is a hugely popular tourist destination and Tobermorry has been the setting for many popular television programmes over the years including the children's programme Balamory! The island is also one of the best places to spot the rare white-tailed sea eagles in addition to dolphins, whales and basking sharks!

This trip is really set to be spectacular, taking you to some of the most beautiful places Scotland has to offer!
