Hi! I’m Tim, I’m a medical student currently in my sixth-year, undertaking a PhD in the Department of Surgery. My first trip with the Club was on the summer programme in 2013, I was an ex-fresher with limited sailing experience on a trip from Ullapool to Aberdeen via the Shetland Islands. It was INCREDIBLE and I’ve been hooked on sailing ever since! I love exploring obscure places only accessible by yacht and finding remote anchorages to spend the night!
What is your favourite recipe to cook onboard Skylark!
My two favourite recipes to cook onboard are chicken jambalaya and sweet potato curry!
Hi! I'm Povl, and am an oceanographer at the British Antarctic Survey. I have been sailing with CUYC on and off since 2009 and skippering since 2015, with some highlights being helping take Kestrel across to Norway in 2013, and crewing on the very first Skylark trip from Slovenia to Croatia in 2016. Sailing is a great way to explore the nooks and crannies of the coast - there is nothing better than finding a nice anchorage and taking the dinghy ashore to explore!
What is your favourite recipe to cook onboard Skylark?
I quite enjoy trying to cook a Thai curry - either vegetarian or with meat, and with varying levels of chili, depending on who is on board.
This should be a great trip with a good mix of cruising and adventurous sailing.
From Falmouth we will spend a day exploring the Helford river and SW coast of Cornwall, possibly spending a night in Penzance and giving everyone a chance to learn the ropes and get to grips with Skylark! We will then venture across from Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly and spend a couple of days exploring the different islands! There are dozens of sandy beaches to visit, great walks to go and we may even visit the Tresco Abbey gardens or try snorkelling with seals! Towards the end of the week we will begin our passage across the Celtic Sea to Kinsale, Ireland. The passage is roughly 140 NM and will last for over 24h! Please make sure that you will be comfortable spending this amount of time at sea before signing up to this trip!
