Summer programme #2 - Isles of Scilly

Adventure Factor: 1.5/5

Explore Cornwall!

Set sail on an relaxed cruising trip around Cornwall - with a little detour to the Isles of Scilly!

About the Trip

The goal for the trip is to explore the beautiful Cornish coast, with a trip over to the Isles of Scilly to see these remote inhabited islands. We will spend nights in isolated anchorages soaking up sunsets with a bbq, look for dolphins as we sail and explore what the cornwall nightlife has to offer.

Although this is a relaxed cruising trip with plenty of time to explore land, we will aim to sail everyday, and the trip over to the Isles of Scilly could be 60nM of sailing (so 12ish hours).

As always the exact plan is weather, crew and tide dependent - but no matter what we should do a mix of sailing and exploring.

No prior sailing experience is required! Just good vibes, a willingness to learn and great energy!

Itinerary

Depart: Falmouth, July 4th

   - Sail (x6), have fun (many times) -

Arrive: Falmouth, July 11th

Your Skipper: Beth Morris

Beth is our CUYC Vice Commodore Ops and new skipper of the club!

I'm a final year medical student, and have been sailing for almost exactly 2 years, after first coming along to a CUYC weekend in May 2024 as a complete novice. I've just passed my yachtmaster so this will be my first time skippering. Over the last 2 years I've done intense passages, plenty of relaxed cruising and some racing - and love it all. I love exploring new places both by sea and on land, and I will definitely have my running shoes with me, and maybe even my climbing shoes...

Your First Mate: Tara Collins

Hi! I’m Tara, I’ll be your first mate for the week. I’m a keen and seasoned sailor, having cruised, raced & delivered all kinds of yachts both in the UK and abroad. I’m an offshore sailor at heart, but I love a cruising trip. As a Club veteran and ex-committee member, Skylark holds a special place in my heart & is the subject of some of my favourite memories (and some of my more stressful ones)! I love coming back to crew for the Summer Programme and getting to sail with new people. See you on the water!

How much does it cost?

Apart from the trip cost you pay when you sign up, there will also be expenses for food, marinas and diesal during the week. These will be sorted out on the trip via the Splitwise app, and usually come around to £100. You must also pay for your own transport to and from the handover marina.

Travel

The trip will start and end in Falmouth - if we have a driver then we could carpool down, otherwise it's accessible by train.

What to Bring

See the "What to Bring" tab for the full list, but bring warm clothing, seasickness remedies if needed, sleeping bag, personal items, some form of ID, and a spirit of adventure!
