Adventure Factor: 4/5
Set sail on an epic summer cruising around Scotland exploring the Orkney Islands!
The trip will involve an 180NM passage from Thurso to Aberdeen via the Orkney Islands!
Prior sailing experience is recommended for this extended coastal passage through the Pentland Firth, where tides can run at c.12 knots, but adventurous newcomers are welcome. Be prepared for some long days sailing and some days visiting places along the way.

Depart: Thurso, September 5th
Cross the Pentland Firth, check out what the Vikings were up to, then hang a right around John o' Groats...
Arrive: Aberdeen, September 12th
Some pictures for a flavour of my trip last year in Sweden:

Hi! I'm Florence, and I've been skippering with CUYC for 3 years now - time flies! I was a first mate in Norway, skippered a trip in the Swedish archipelago last year, and am looking forward to another jam-packed week on Skylark in Scotland this September. Since leaving Cambridge in 2023, I've spent time working on boats in the UK and abroad, with the occasional race thrown in for good measure! I've also done a fair amount of offshore and adventurous sailing, which may come in handy for this trip..! I'm now doing a law conversion course in London, with bitter regrets to not be spending all my time on the water. Looking forward to rectifying this with CUYC in September! :)
Apart from the trip cost you pay when you sign up, there will also be expenses for food, marinas and diesel during the week. These will be sorted out on the trip via the Splitwise app, and usually come around to £100. You must also pay for your own transport to and from the handover marina.
The trip will start from Thurso and end in Aberdeen, both of which are accessible by train.
See the "What to Bring" tab for the full list, but bring warm clothing, seasickness remedies if needed, sleeping bag, personal items, some form of ID, and a spirit of adventure!
