This one-day shorebased course aims to familiarise you with the workings of the marine diesel engine. We cover everything from the basic principle of operation - the four-stroke cycle - to the various systems and their intricate components that come together to make the engine work. Please see dedicated tab explaining the syllabus in full.
The course is practical - you can expect to get hands-on pulling components off the engine - and the level is suitable for beginners and seasoned skippers alike. This is a fun course to participate in, and a really good idea to get a little more familiar with what goes on under the companionway in case you ever get stuck with engine trouble while at sea. Yachtmaster Exams often feature questions about the engine and candidates are expected to know how to service and troubleshoot a marine diesel engine - so this is a great course to upskill if you are thinking about becoming a skipper in the future.
