In our first at sea event of the 2021-22 season, we are chartering a fleet of Hunter 707 keelboats from the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club on the River Crouch. These 7m-long keelboats with symmetrical spinnakers are sailed by a crew of 5 and will provide a great platform to get all racing squad members up to speed by rotating round various crew roles and practising spinnaker manoevres, before we move to training on larger yachts. With a fleet of four or five boats, we will also get the chance to drill race starts, boat-on-boat tactics and even have a couple of informal races!
We will set off from Cambridge at 7.30 am and will be back by 7.30 pm. Burhnam on Crouch is a 1h30 drive away - if you have a car, please let Laurence Cochrane (profile) know in the sign-up note. No specific kit is required other than a waterproof jacket and a pair of trainers you don't mind getting wet - lifejackets are provided. Please bring a packed lunch & enough snacks to keep you going for a full-on day of sailing!
