The plan is to take both of our club yachts - Puffin and Skylark - out and sail down the Orwell and have a bit of fun on the water!
We will buzz around Felixtowe, Harwhich and the Stour - very nice scenic and interesting places for a relaxed sail to get comfortable on a boat and see what it is all about!
If you wanted, you are free to do both days and stay over on the boats - this includes a night in the pubs/bars of Ipswich!
This is a trip for anyone, though preference will be given to those new to the University. Please let us know in the sign up if you are a fresher so you get a preference.
Expect fun sailing, a very chilled out day out with nice food and banter.
Catch an early train to Ipswich (Train at 7.47 from Cambridge) A return without a railcard costs £18.20, which you need to buy yourself.
Get to Ipswich and make your way to the Marina (10min walk)
Get on either Puffin or Skylark, depending on your prefence and what space is available.
A quick briefing on the boat and safety
Head out of the harbour
Sail sail sail!
Have lunch somewhere either at anchor or on a mooring buoy.
Sail sail sail
Head back into Ipswich
Have dinner on the way
Walk back to the train station
The last 'quick' train to Cambridge is at 9.17pm, but we should aim to be back before 7pm.
The cost of the day trip will be £20.
Once you have paid, that is you committing to the trip
There are only 14 spaces per day and it's first come first serve so don't miss out!
The weather - of course we can't control this, so bring warm things.
Please bring a suitable bag/rucksack - no hard airport-style bags.
Seasickness tablets if you feel you might be prone to this! Bring any other medication you may need during the day.
You should bring warm things, it can be chilly on the water!
Jumper or fleece
There are CUYC waterproofs (jacket and salopettes) that you are free to use!
Bring electronics at your own risk. They should be fine as the boats should stay dry inside, but maybe a waterproof bag is a good idea.
If you are doing both days, you need to bring a thick warm sleeping bag!
Both boats have heaters, so we should be fine ;)
Looking forward to seeing you!
