I'm Beth, skipper for this trip - I first got into yacht sailing through CUYC whilst at uni and have stayed involved ever since. My co-skipper Lucy's been sailing for much longer having grown up on Jersey where you can't help but avoid the sea. We actually met for the first time on my first ever sailing trip with the club and cemented our friendship sailing from Helsinkin to Stockholm on the last summer programme to visit Sweden. Since then have both qualified as skippers and run several trips together.
This trip is going to be a really relaxed week of cruising from Weymouth to Southampton - it's not too much ground to cover so there will be plenty of flexibility with the itinerary, and we'll be able to adjust according to the weather. They're also really easy to get to by train, which always helps! It's a wonderful part of the coast to explore, with famous landmarks, seaside towns to explore (anyone for fish and chips?) and a likely tour round the Isle of Wight.
It's an ideal trip for beginners - both Lucy and I love teaching crew how to sail. We also really welcome people travelling on their own. Everyone's meeting someone new on a club trip and by the end of the week you get to know each other pretty well! As a crew member, you'll sleep on board the yacht in your sleeping bag and contribute to both the sailing and general running of the boat. Expenses will be shared for food and marina fees - this usually comes out as around £80 for the week.
Sights to look out for:
Please contact Bethany Keith (profile) if you have any questions about the trip. Importantly: please do not make any travel arrangements untill your place has been confirmed and you have heard from your skipper.
