This popular one-day course will teach you all aspects of operation of VHF-DSC radios. Practice with real radio sets and computer simulations and walk away with a life-long RYA certificate of competence.

Overview

The course is split in two. The first session is concerned with general radio procedures and calls in the morning, and the GMDSS system and practical operation of radios and voice procedure, in the afternoon. There will, of course, be time for lunch in-between. The second session is the RYA VHF Examination, which, once passed will entitle you to life-long RYA Certificate of Competence.

Students are required to have a prior knowledge of the phonetic alphabet (the ANSI one) and to provide one standard size passport photograph (not smaller).

Don't forget

Before coming to the course, please make sure you have

  • Familiarised yourself with the phonetic alphabet (the ANSI one)
  • Paid membership this year,
  • Registred an CUYC account and filled in your crew register,
  • Paid Cambridge University Yachting £65/£95 - details of how to do this are here

On the day of the course please bring a passport size photograph (of yourself, obviously)
