Alimos Marina

Do NOT buy air tickets util Greg has sent you an email !

There are a large number of people involved, so we are still working on the crew list. Do NOT buy any tickets until you have received a PERSONAL email from Greg Chadwick confirming your place. Just because you have paid the CUYC fee does not mean that you have a place.

These instructions are quick and brief, they are only to help you plan your flight timings.

Most people will fly into, and leave from, Athens airport. This is out to the east of Athens, about an hour away by most forms of transport.

When you arrive at AThens airport, get a coppy of the "Airport Transport" leaflet which has maps of transport in and around Athens. The rack of maps is on the wall, along to the right when you come out of the customs area into the Arrivals hall.

  • The trip will begin  at Alimos Marina on the mainland . You will need to get from Athens airport to  Alimos Marina by the evening of Wednesday April 11th. 2012. Some people will arrive late the evening before, so you can arrive any time during Wednesday 11th or the evening before (The early team will be boarding boats late on Tuesday: around 2230 ).
  • The trip will end at Alimos Marina on the mainland, we will arrive during the afternoon of Wednesday 18th April 2012.

Getting to and from Alimos Marina ("1st Kalamakiou")  to the airport is easy: the X96 bus goes right past it:
[Click on the map for a larger image. This is an older map, the bus is now called X96, not E96, and this map does not show the full length of the metro lines in 2012. ]

The bus stop for Alimos Marina is called "1st Kalamakiou". Do not get off the bus at "3rd Kalimakiou" or "5th Kalimakiou" or you will have a long walk. If you get to the stop "EDEM" then you have gone too far! But get off and walk back, it is about the same distance from the marina entrance as "1st Kalamakiou" in fact.

Alimos Marina is a big place, as you can see from the chartlet below, and it is completely crammed with boats, some very big so that you cannot see across the marina. You cannot just turn up and expect to find us. You will need instructions, and you will need to write them down and bring them with you from the UK. We will tell you where precisely we are in the marina in an email closer to the departure date.
