Sailing in the Mediterranean - The Aegean Sea

£170* + Expenses (Food/Moorings/Travel etc)

CUYC is heading back to the Med.  This time we're picking up the boats from Athens and spending the week exploring starting from the Saronic Gulf and heading beyond in the crystal blue waters of the Aegean sea.  The boats we're taking are two superbly appointed Cyclades 50.5s, 50 ft boats with plenty of space for 10 people apiece.

Kea

Kea, one of the many possible places we can go

You can be sure that whatever happens this is going to be week full of great sailing, great food and great fun.

This trip is going to fill fast so if you want to come make sure to sign up now!

The plan is for the majority of the crew to make their way to the Island of Aegina, a short ferry ride from Athens and meet the boats there (Which will be sailed from Athens by the Skippers + a couple of crew).

From Aegina we have a whole host of options.  There are the close by Islands of Poros and Hydra, and the amazing island group that is the Cyclades where we plan to spend most of our time.  Each night will bring a different place and a different island.  Some nights we will hit the town and others raft up in a bay at Anchor and have the night to ourselves gently bobbing in the calm waters away from the land.

An entertaining distraction while
sailing the med - Dolphin Spotting

As always beginners are very welcome.  This actually is an ideal trip if you've never sailed before and want to learn as the sailing won't be demanding but you'll have plenty of chance to have a go and learn the ropes.  They'll be a mixture of relaxed days and longer legs but the emphasis is on enjoying ourselves, not mile building.

If you have any questions at all don't hesitate to email me Greg Chadwick (profile).

Travel

PLEASE DO NOT BOOK FLIGHTS UNTIL I CONFIRM ARRANGEMENTS WITH YOU VIA EMAIL

We'll be flying into Athens airport and taking a taxi or a bus from there to Piraeus (The harbour of Athens) where you can catch a ferry to Aegina.  A small group will head to Alimos marina (Also in Athens) and sail the boats to Aegina where we will all meet in the evening.  The reason for this is Aegina is a much nicer place to spend our first night :)  I will send an email to everyone on the trip to arrange travel once we have decided upon the final details, please do not book any travel before this.

Costs

Along with the trip cost (potentially lower than advertised, see below) and flights, there will be expenses as usual.  These are for things like food, mooring and diesel, I'd expect this to be no more than £80, hopefully less.

* The trip cost may come down, if we fill both of the boats we intend it to get it will be cheaper, the difference will be credited to you on trip expenses, so invite your friends :)
