This is a very practical hands-on course to teach the management of all first aid situations that can occur on board a yacht. From the simple things like sea sickness, cuts and sprains, to the more serious, like fractures, bleeding, burns, head injury, hypothermia, and cardiac arrest.
All teaching is centred around scenario based exercises, involving the use of resuscitation manikins, automatic defibrilators, and simulated patients. Active participation is required from all course participants as they alternately take on the role of "skipper" to lead the rest of their "crew" in the management of the unwell crew member. The course teaches the practical skills of steristrips, bandaging, splints, slings, suturing and use of medications as well as the management of burns, shock, hypothermia, head injury and cardiac arrest.
The course results in an RYA First Aid certificate, which is valid for 3 years. There will be a lunch break of about 30 mins, people should provide their own pack lunch.
No prior expierence is required.
