Santorini: the goal of our trip
£185
plus travel & expenses
Springtime sailing clear blue Agean sea between the flower-clad hills of the Cycladic Islands!
We start with the yacht at Poros (ferry or hydrofoil from Piraeus/Athens), then to Sounion and the Poseidon Temple, then South past Kea towards Paros / Naxos and Ios, and hopefully Santorini (Thira) and then across back up the West side of the Cyclades past Milos. In total, we are aiming for a bit more than 230nm, but with the extra days compared to a normal week, it should be fairly relaxed apart from one or two long legs.
The last night (Monday 19th) is back in Poros. The night before we need to be nearby, so probably in Spetses in the Argolic Gulf . The leg back to Spetses from the Cyclades will be one of the long legs, offering some more adventuous night-sailing - accompanied by dolphins glowing with bio-luminescence with any luck. By this time in the trip, even complete beginners will feel like old hands.
If you have never sailed with the club before this is a great chance to do so: a friendly crew and relaxed sailing with plenty of sight-seeing. Talk to some of the people who were on last year's trip: the difference this year is that we are going a month later so it will be rather warmer. Swimming, on at least one or two days, is very likely.
If you can't make the whole 8 days, just email me Philip Sargent and we will work out a late pick-up or early departure for you.
Yes, there are dolphins everywhere,
even in April
Weather south and east of Athens in March/April is not cold, but neither is it high Summer. Plan for weather similar to the UK in an average May/June and you won't go far wrong. There could be brief wet, cold squalls, but mostly we expect clear, sunny days with plenty of blue sky.
The statistics for Athens in April are: temperature 11-20 C in the shade, 8 hours of sunshine a day, 23mm of rain in the month: 9/30 days with any rain.

We fly to Athens on Thursday ( flights arriving at 2am are much cheaper) and stay in a student hostel. On Friday morning we get a 1-hour hydrofoil (or 2-hour ferry) to Poros where we provision the boats and sleep overnight onboard. We have to get the boats back to Poros by the next Monday evening, for a return flight from Athens on Tuesday.
Please do not book your flight until you have confirmation of a place from the Trip Organiser which will be an email with the word "CONFIRMATION" in the subject line.
So, what are you waiting for?! Sign up now to get one of these last-minute places. Our Med. trips are always very popular and a favourite introduction for first-time sailors who have never sailed with the club before. Click on the SignUp button or just e-mail Philip Sargent.

Our boat will be a Jenneau Sun Odyssey 36i sleeps 7, and we will collect the boat from Poros: due South of Athens on the map below.
Flights from London are by EASYJET (Gatwick) or AGEAN AIR (Heathrow) and there are cheaper flights (£46) out on Weds/Thurs. 7/8th and back on Tues. 20th April (£60). These prices will change by the hour. If not enough people can make the extra days, we could consider shortening the trip. Please tell me this when you fill out the sign-up form.

Poros is almost due south of Athens.
