Longing to do something slightly more adventurous? This time - if weather permits - we will aim to actually do a small passage! Depending on wind and tide we plan to sail either up or down the coast to reach one of the more distant East Coast rivers. Crouch in the south of Ipswich and Ore in the north are possible destinations but if the weather gets too rough there are plenty of interesting places closer by such as Deben or Walton Backwaters.
A rough schedule will be arrival in Ipswich on Friday night followed by dinner and a short trip down the river Orwell. We will spend the night in or around Shotley Spit and leave the Felixstowe area on Saturday morning going where wind and tide look most promising. Sunday night we plan to spend in one of the East Coast rivers either at anchor, moored up to a buoy or in one of the many lovely marinas, have a nive dinner and possibly visit one or the other pub. The next morning we will start our return trip aiming to arrive in Ipswich around 6pm and in Cambridge no later than 10pm. Experience wise we are happy to take both complete newcomers and pros as long as we have a good mix on board! Especially if you have done your theory course just recently or are currently in the process of doing it, this trip will be of interest to you. The East Coast with all its river entrances and shipping channels is an excellent area for learning coastal navigation so why not give it a try in practice after having learned all the theory? We are looking forward to hearing from you! Igor & Nikolaus |
