This is a two week trip from the Lofoten islands to Trondheim. We will leave either from Bodo or Tromso depending on flight costs to be determined nearer the time once most of the crew have signed up. We will spend the first week of ten days cruising around the Lofoten islands and the Vesterfjords on the adjacent mainland. These are spectacular cruising grounds with stunning scenery and wildlife. We will then cruise down the western coast of Norway from the Lototen islands to Trondheim. This area has numerous small islands and epic fjords with interesting routes and channels through them under towering bridges and through narrow ravines. All the while we will be under the midnight sun with midnight being a slight twilight or dusk, allowing long days sailing and then parties and barbeques! This is an adventure not to be missed! No particular experience is needed but a keen adventurous spirit and willingness to muck in are key to enjoying the trip and getting the most out of it. The sailing willbe generally sheltered between the islands and the summer conditions are usually a gentler warmth and moderate winds, though this far north anything is possible and overall it is likely to be varied. Conditions are similar to Scotland in summer for those that have walked or sailed in this area.
The Lofoten islands are one of the top ten sailing destinations in the world! Towering moutinous islands plunging into the sea with a myriad of anchorages and secluded bays. There'll be lots of sailing, exploring ashore and parties under the midnight sun! The wildlife in the Lofotens is spectacular with puffins, eagles, otters and reindeer!
The coast between Lofoten and Trondheim is a mixture of islands and fjords. Having had shorter days sailing whilst in the Lofotens and gotten everyone familiar with the yacht, this second part of the trip will involve longer passages including possibly one overnight passage. Having said that, with the midnight sun it will hardly feel like an overnight passage! There should be the chance to go up some of the fjords and there are interesting channels that connect some of them allowing for epic sailing through narrow gaps and under towering bridges.
We have ensured that there are either direct flights or flights via Oslo from London airports on the start and end date of the trip - however, please do NOT book any flights until your place has been confirmed and the skipper has been in touch with you. You will probably travel together as a crew.
