Sailing within the Arctic Circle, from Bodø to Tromsø, past the stunning Lofoten islands. Fjords, deep water, steep coastline… and as we get further north, the sun will shine longer and longer until we reach true midnight sun for the last days of the trip!
This trip starts out with a 45 M passage from Bodø across the Vestfjorden to the tip of the Lofoten island chain, to give us the most time to see as much of the islands as possible in a week! You don't need any prior sailing experience, you'll learn all you need on board, but this is an active holiday: everyone needs to work together to hoist and trim the sails, and you should expect to take an active part in all aspects of sailing our yacht! Some days we may spend many hours sailing along the coastline, on others stop in a cove to hike up a mountain and look at our boat from above. While anchoring in secluded fjords along the islands, we'll have limited supply of fresh water, so be aware that your daily shower may have to consist of invigorating sea water… if you're not put off by limited showers, going right out into the blue sea on your first day, and having to pull a rope, and being tolerant of each other as we share a confined space for a week, then this may certainly be one of your best holidays :)
I've been sailing with CUYC since moving to Cambridge in 2009, and have been skippering my own trips for the last three years. After an adventurous long-distance trip along the southern coast of Spain from Ibiza to Cadiz (with continuous night-sailing for almost week!) I'm looking forward to sailing in an altogether different area - with no night sailing (which would be pretty difficult, when the sun never sets!), colder water, but more islands… :)
We have ensured that there are either direct flights or flights via Oslo from London airports on the start and end date of the trip - however, please do NOT book any flights until your place has been confirmed and the skipper has been in touch with you. You will probably travel together as a crew.
