CETC are holding a seminar on The Future of Maritime Communications on Thursday 29th April at 1800. It will take place at the St. John 's Innovation Centre on Cowley Road.
Cost will be £7.50.

Leaving relatively late on Friday evening, we'll pootle down the Orwell to find a buoy, have dinner and break open a polypin of Milton Brewery's finest.
On Saturday morning we'll get some bacon on the stove and bread in the oven as we drop the buoy and head down the coast to a suitably quiet and picturesque backwater. There we can relax with a G&T as we cook a fabulous dinner in the galley. Naturally the beer will need finishing too.
This trip is ideal for beginners and experienced sailors alike. Good cooks with a sense of humour especially welcome; bring your favourite cake recipe!

Springtime sailing clear blue Agean sea between the flower-clad hills of the Cycladic Islands ! Need one say more ?
This is a full 8 days sailing and we have negotiated a very serious discount. It will be the cheapest Med. sailing you get this year and the easy sailing is suitable for everyone.
We will be sailing to the Cyclades, the same general area as last year's Easter Med. trip, but en entirely different set of islands and ports. With the extra day or so, we hope to get to Santorini (Thira).

If you want to spend more than a lunch time to explore "The Venice of the North" after having made it all the way from Ipswich, then this trip is for you. We plan to have a chilled out trip to the picturesque town of Bruges at Easter. We will set sail on Thursday the 1st and will spend a good part of the weekend in Bruges, before heading back to arrive in Ispwich on Monday evening.
This cruising trip might involve night passages across the channel. Sailors with some sailing experience are welcome to join this trip. Please get in touch if you'd like to know more before making up your mind.
There is also the possibility of leaving earlier on Thursday which is preferable if enough people are interested. So if interested, please let me know if that is the case for you.

Lent term is over, the weather is getting better and tides are excellent for an adventuruous trip to Belgium. We will set off on Friday night from Ipswich, cross over to Zeebrugge and then head down south east straight into the centre of the picturesque town of Bruges.

Setting off from Ipswich we will aim to reach one of the more distant East Coast rivers up or down the coast such as Ore or Crouch. This trip will involve a short coastal passage during the day, a night at anchor in one of the rivers and the return trip on the next day.

It'll be week four, and you will want to relax in preparation for the rest of the term. What could be better than coming for a weekend sailing in good company, with good food and awesome anchorages!

All students start the same course and are taught the material for both the RYA Day Skipper Theory and the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Theory syllabi thereby gaining a thorough grounding in all the theory behind yachting, eliminating inefficient overlap between the syllabi and covering material normally only taught in one of the courses. This is the third course this year, starting at the beginning of lent term, on Thursday evenings.

"When your eyes lift from looking at the people and things around you, and you find yourself gazing at the stars thinking how beautiful they really are...". A course in astro-navigation, world-wide meteorology, and ocean passage planning.

After familiarising ourselves with the vessel we will head over to Yarmouth for the first evening. New Years eve will be spent cruising the Solent and we will arrive in Cowes in time for dinner and drinks. Cowes has a reputation for being rather lively on New Years Eve - so please bring a pirate costume. New Years day will be spent cruising to the Needles before arriving back in Lymington by about 4 pm as it gets dark.

Kestrel is making its long-awaited way to London on Saturday, 7th November. This is your chance to catch up with the club and other London-based alumni (and admire the boat)! Starting on the evening of friday 10th April from Swanwick marina on the south coast. This trip will be a one-way cruising trip from the south coast to Ipswich on the East Coast, via several French and possibly Belgian ports such as Boulonge, Oostende, and possibly even the delightful town of Brugge. This trip will be fairly adventurous simply because of the distances involved, however, the boat will be run in a relaxed way with a definite aim of spending time ashore soaking up the French/Belgian culture in quaint coffee shops, bars and restaurants.

What better way to spend the first week of the Christmas holidays than on board Kestrel with loverly people and good beer. We'll be trying to get to as many good pubs as possible in a week!
A laid back end to the term: concentrating on cruising up the nature reserve backwaters off the Solent, finding pubs with open fires and (a novelty for CUY), a proper lunch every day! We will be meeting up with the Oxford University Yacht Club who are coincidentally having a training weekend at the same time from the Hamble. We are already planning which pubs to meet up at.

After the previous weekend traveling from Ipswich to Eastbourne, we need another crew to go from Eastbourne to Swanwick Marina on the river Hamble. This is another opportunity for mile building if you missed the first one, although there is nothing to stop you doing both! This trip is not suitable for complete beginners.
Kestrel is heading South! A great trip for those needing miles or passages, we will be heading down from Ipswich to Eastbourne over the three days. Not suitable for complete beginners, as we will be on a watch system, and may have to push through some heavy weather. We can't guarantee the sunshine, but it will be fun!

A last weekend on the east coast before it gets cold and Kestrel heads south for the winter. The plan is to start from Ipswich and put in some decent day passages, stopping in at various rivers along the way. There should also be some good training opportunities.

There will be two exam days - one on Friday and one on Sunday, to enable those that are ready to go first and those that need more time to wait until Sunday for the exam. A two week trip around Norway and Northern Scotland, incorporating a two day offshore passage bringing the club yacht back across the North Sea to the Shetland islands. The offshore passage will take 2 days, and the rest of this 14 day trip will be spent soaking up the spectacular sights of Norway before crossing the North Sea and enjoying the wilderness of the Shetland and Orkney islands and Northern Scotland.
A cruising trip from the Andalsnes area back to Bergen, exploring all the stunning fjords and islands in the area.
A one week trip sailing south from Trondheim to Andalsnes or beyond, exploring the more northern fjords and islands of Western Norway. Few other yachts frequent this area and the coastline offers unspoilt natural beauty dotted with the occassional picturesque village.
Once the club yacht has made its way to Norway, there will be a more relaxed cruising trip beginning in Bergen (where we will fly to) and making our way up the west coast of Norway to Trondheim. This will give us plenty of time to explore the fjords and harbours in between; soak up the scenery; enjoy BBQs in quiet harbours and test out the new boat's sound system. This trip provides the perfect complement of spectacular scenery, super sailing and superior sounds.
This 9 day trip will consist of a 4 day adventurous passage across the North Sea from the east coast of Britain to Norway, covering over 400 nautical miles of continous sailing. Once in Norway the trip will continue for a further 5 days exploring the myriad of fjords and islands in the area between Floro, Bergen and Stavanger. This is an excellent adventurous trip for those that want to extend their offshore experience, mile build, and challenge themselves, before then having a well earned relaxing (in an adventurous way) cruise around Norway. Enthusiasm and a keen spirit are much more important than experience!

Formal Hall at Girton for past, present and future members of the CUCrC interested in yachting. Priority given to those on South Coast Weekend, as this may include disscussion of theory of skill. Theme for the food is Harry Potter with magic mushrooms(?!) and hogwarts flan. Meet at 6:30pm in Girton bar ready to eat at 7:00pm.
